Influenced by Chinese art and reflecting 18th century romanticism, chinoiserie decorative work is both elegant and delicate. Hallmarks of chinoiserie are lavish gold leaf raised motifs and intricate hand-painted designs. This piano, designed in a traditional English furniture style, features straight lines in the legs with painted accents. In England, in the late 1700’s, Thomas Chippendale was a leading exponent of chinoiserie, producing a unique and decorative type of furniture.
