Steinway Comes to Vermont

Incredible savings on the world’s finest pianos, plus special free presentations and performances

A portion of proceeds directly benefits Monteverdi Music School and VCFA.

Free technical presentation, performances & factory-direct piano sale.

See performance schedule below.

We are pleased to invite you to a very special free event. Steinway & Sons, Monteverdi Music School, and Vermont College of Fine Arts have developed a unique alliance to provide you with a remarkable opportunity to acquire a Steinway or Steinway-designed Boston or Essex piano at substantially reduced prices, and to support these community programs at the same time.

Steinway pianos are rarely discounted, but through this special arrangement, the pianos being used for the performance showcase at VCFA will be sold at prices far below retail value.

If you have ever considered owning a fine piano, or upgrading your existing instrument, we hope you will take advantage of this unique offer.

Music Teacher’s Forum

Integrating Composition Into the Private Studio — free event

Join facilitators Luke Rackers, Erik Nielsen, Matt LaRocca, Tiffany Pfeiffer, & Michael Close for a forum about ways to integrate music composition into the private studio. Share your ideas, success stories, goals, and questions with the group. The facilitators will happily share their insights into the benefits of music composition, ideas for starting new works, and tips for getting students excited about creating music.

Budding Composers Workshop

Performance of Works in Progress — free to spectators: requires student signup.

Do you have a piece of music for piano, cello, violin/viola, or any combination of the three that you would love to hear performed live? Sometimes you just need to hear a live musician play something in order to make decisions about editing or to know how to evolve your musical ideas! For this workshop, performers will play your work and then you will have a chance to change something about the work and hear it performed again. This workshop is an opportunity to experiment and test ideas for works in the foundational through mid-intermediate levels. Works are limited to 48 measures or a 48 measure section of a larger work.

Musical Emotions Game & Thinking Beyond the Notes

How can you express your emotions in real time through improvisation? What musical decisions can you make to portray specific emotions and feelings? How can you tell stories through music composition? Join Matthew LaRocca, Executive Director of Music-COMP, for this fun game and practice your improvisation and composition skills.

Special Performance & Reception

We will conclude our Celebration of Music Composition with a performance by Tiffany Pfeiffer, VCFA MFA composition student, and Luke Rackers and Michael Close, featuring a new work from the Abundant Silence catalog. Join us for a light reception after the performance to talk with facilitators and performers.

Students can sign up for the two activities online at: www.abundantsilence.org/composer-mentor-program.html
