Once, thirteen piano merchants graced Piano Row on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia. Today, only one survives from that historic era, occupying the handsome art deco store we built in 1937 offering four floors of pianos, featuring Jacobs' largest selection of new Steinway pianos, great service, and an even greater passion for pianos.
Maybe it's the fact that we were founded the same magical year as the Philadelphia Orchestra. Maybe the magic is that we're still family-owned. Whatever the reason, Jacobs Music has endured spectacularly, operated by the Rinaldi family with the same time-honored values on which the business was founded over 100 years ago.
Jacobs Music is more than a piano retailer. We take a leading role in the region's musical community, providing instruments and technical services for internationally renowned artists and music institutions, as well as supporting schools and individuals involved in musical performances and music education.
For over 40 years, Al C. Rinaldi was the visionary force and driving inspiration of the Jacobs Music Company, serving as chairman and CEO. As the exclusive regional representative for Steinway & Sons Pianos, Jacobs Music is one of the nation’s largest piano retailers. Established in 1900, Jacobs Music was acquired in 1976 by Rinaldi and his family, who have sustained its growth. His long-standing commitment to serve and support regional musical organizations and institutions continues today as Jacobs Music provides instruments and technical services to internationally renowned artists and regional music institutions. The Philadelphia Orchestra, the Philly POPS, the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Astral Artists and Play on, Philly! are but a few of the organizations which Jacobs supports.
Jacobs Music sponsors recitals, master classes, young artist competitions, and various seminars to spur musical achievement and appreciation. The company holds piano perform-a-thons, where young pianists have the opportunity to perform on Steinway pianos at prestigious local venues. Jacobs Music then donates the proceeds to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the Ronald McDonald House, UNICEF and other charitable organizations. Every year, the Jacobs Music Award is given to outstanding graduating pianists at several area universities.
Today, Chris Rinaldi, President and Robert Rinaldi, Senior Vice President of Operations, are the principals of Jacobs Music. Together with Executive Vice-President, Gabrielle Kazze Rinaldi, Jacobs continues the founder's tradition of actively supporting the region's musical artists, educators and institutions, and providing them and their students with the finest instruments from the world's most respected manufacturers. Chris Rinaldi serves on the boards of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and Astral Artists. Robert Rinaldi serves on the board of the Bravura Orchestra, the School of Music Advisory Board for West Chester University and the Advancement Board of the Music School of Delaware. Gabrielle Kazze Rinaldi, Executive Vice President, Cultural Partnerships and Concert & Artist Services, has served as a board member of Astral Artists, the Musical Fund Society and The Curtis Institute of Music Board of Overseers, as well as other arts institutions and organizations; she presently serves on the board of Play on, Philly! and is a member of the Board of Visitors of the Center for the Performing and Cinematic Arts at Temple University.
