Steinway Adds Andrew Vargas to Young Steinway Artist Roster

ASTORIA, NY (May 4, 2017) – Steinway & Sons announces a new addition to its prestigious roster of Young Steinway Artists: sixteen-year-old pianist Andrew Vargas. As the MTNA Senior Performance Division Winner and National Finalist for 2017, Vargas has established the groundwork for an impressive career as a concert pianist. His achievement of the Steinway Artist designation places him alongside living and immortal Steinway Artists including Lang Lang, Yuja Wang, Van Cliburn, and Vladimir Horowitz.

The Young Steinway Artist program was developed to provide emerging artists the opportunity to join the elite Steinway Artist roster. The program confers upon a select group of talented musicians the distinction of affiliation with the Steinway Artist family as well as access to the worldwide resources of Steinway & Sons and its exclusive network of dealers.

Vargas’ addition to the program is the result of enormous artistic development over a short period of years. He is often praised for his mature musical artistry, sense of harmonic color, impressive technique, and performance energy. In 2016, he participated in Piano Texas International Academy and Festival, where he achieved first place in the Concerto Competition and performed the Liszt Concerto No. 1 with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of internationally renowned Irish concert pianist and conductor Barry Douglas. Earlier that year, he placed first in The Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition and debuted at Carnegie Hall.

“Steinway’s expert craftsmanship and attention to detail enables the artist to deliver an amazing array of sound and color,” said Vargas. “Steinway & Sons, the world’s finest piano, fulfills my artistic calling to bring light and divine inspiration into the hearts of my audience.”
