Arseniy Gusev
Composer and pianist Arseniy Gusev was born in St. Petersburg in 1998 and has been studying and composing music since the age of five. In 2014, he had his orchestra debut as a composer when the Siberian Symphony Orchestra (conductor Dmitry Vasiliev) performed the orchestral suite from his opera Terioshechka. In 2015, he went to the Boston University Tanglewood Institute as a pianist.
In 2018, Arseniy moved to the United States. He is currently finishing his studies as a pianist at The Juilliard School, having previously studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Yale School of Music. Sergei Babayan, David Lang, Christopher Theofanidis, Aaron J. Kernis, Katherine Balch, and Keith Fitch are among his teachers. Gusev’s compositions present a colorful variety of styles and genres, some of which are solo, collaborative, symphonic, ballet, opera, theater and film scores, and free improvisation works.
As a pianist, he has been performing internationally and has given concerts in Austria, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovakia, China, the United States, Canada, Singapore, Russia, and Germany. His compositions have been performed in Konzerthaus Dortmund, Carnegie Hall, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Shanghai Symphony Hall, Mariinsky Theater, Oriental Art Center, and other venues. He collaborated with such conductors as Arkady Steinluht, Dmitry Vasiliev, Robert Carter Austin, Alexander Titov, Ilya Derbilov, Mikhail Golikov, and Mikhail Mosenkov, and performed together with such musicians as Jaime Laredo, Sharon Robinson, Olga Kaler, and Anthony Roth Costanzo.
In 2025, Arseniy was awarded the prestigious Charles Ives Fellowship by the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
As of 2025, five albums featuring Arseniy and his music were published: “Enfleurage” (Etymology Classics, 2023), “Musical Offering” (Steinway&Sons, 2024), “Cabinet of Curiosities” (Tencent Music, 2025), “Witraż” (Azica, 2025), and “Crossroads” (Music in the Sky, 2025).
Arseniy is a Young Steinway Artist.
