It has been my privilege to practice, study, and perform on Steinway instruments throughout my career and it is always a joy to see a Steinway on stage as I know it will reveal more of my own potential as well as that of the music I play.”

Charles Hulin

dmired for his collaborative abilities and creative approach, pianist and composer Charles Hulin brings personal warmth and a breadth of musicality to stage and classroom alike.  His performances and presentations range from the Viennese Classics to rarities of the antebellum parlor repertoire to premieres of new works such as Robert Pound’s concert-length Sonata in Memorium Lloyd Arriola.

A prize winner in the Hilton Head International Piano Competition and a recipient of special recognition for collaborative performance in the Liszt-Garrison Competition, he performed extensively in the mid-Atlantic region during the early years of his career while teaching at University of Richmond and the College of William and Mary. Principal engagements of that time included frequent chamber appearances with members of the United States Naval Academy Band and as solo pianist for performances of the Richmond Ballet.

Hulin’s festival and conference appearances demonstrate a diversity of interests from the experimental (Third Practice Festival of Electro-Acoustic Music) to the spiritual (The Hymn Society in the United States and Canada). His own piano works have been heard in a variety of settings such as Scotland’s Iona Abbey, Lithuania’s Angel Museum, the national conference of NACUSA, and Weill Recital Hall. He has also created numerous materials for the use of students including the multi-volume piano method, Pilgrimage of Practice. And for more than twenty-five years he has coordinated the Lasker Summer Music Festival, inviting brilliant classical and jazz performers to share their music and inspiration in a rural North Carolina retreat setting.

Dr. Hulin holds degrees from Juilliard and Peabody where he studied with Veda Kaplinsky and Ellen Mack while participating in the masterclasses of Leon Fleisher. He resides in Lakeland, FL where he directs an innovative piano program at Southeastern University preparing students for the range of musical careers they will pursue.

Dr. Hulin is a Steinway Artist.
