Spirio Spotlight

Bob Dylan, Music from Wicked, jazz ballads, piano rāgas and a Chopin premiere

Recent films inspire some of our new playlists this month on Spirio. A smash hit and long-running show on Broadway, Wicked’s now critically acclaimed release as a feature film makes it a good time for Spirio owners to sample some of the music.  And one of the great songwriters of our time, Bob Dylan, is also celebrated on the big screen this year, so we have updated our Dylan playlist with new tracks of familiar favorites.

And it’s Frédéric Chopin’s birthday this month. We have a new home in the Spirio app where you can explore the many performances of his works we have to offer – from Steinway Immortals as well as from some of the biggest names in Classical music performing today. This month we have a special treat that features the world premiere performance of a recently discovered Waltz, performed by Lang Lang.

Spiriocasts

For a unique approach to experiencing the fascinating world of the Indian Raag, take some time to enjoy the fine young pianist and composer Utsav Lal performing these works on the piano in an updated set.  His latest recital is also available to view in the On Demand Spiriocast section.

We are also very pleased to present the Spirio debut of the terrific young jazz pianist and composer, Joe Block. His recent live Spiriocast from Steinway Hall is also now available in our On Demand section. His extended set of Jazz Ballads is available for all listeners and is a great introduction to his artistry.

For those tuning in to Spiriocasts, you won’t want to miss our first live Spiriocast from the Royal College of Music in London which features a group of artists performing the 4-hand version of Stravinsky’s ground-breaking work, The Rite of Spring. More On Demand Spiriocasts to be released this month include jazz great Bill Charlap from Steinway Hall, an excellent French program with David Kadouch from the Hamburg Spirio studio, and the always engaging Belgian composer and pianist Jean-François Maljean from Steinway Hall.
