Inspired by an 1874 exhibition of his late friend, the painter and architect Viktor Hartmann, Mussorgsky’s monumental Pictures at an Exhibition is a tour-de-force and a supreme example of the musical expression of art. Famously orchestrated by Ravel, the work was originally written for piano and we are thrilled to have a new performance for Spirio recorded by the fine pianist, Yutong Sun at our studio in Shanghai.

The latest album from GRAMMY-winning jazz pianist and composer John Beasley also derives its inspiration from physical artworks. While “promenading” through the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, he quietly sang melodic ideas into his iPhone, later developed these ideas on a Spirio piano in New York, and finally integrated the solo piano tracks into orchestrated versions for Big Band. The album, Invisible Piano, is indeed popular, and Spirio owners have exclusive access to some of the original tracks for solo piano as well as a SpirioSync video of John from the Spirio session in New York.

One of our favorite jazz pianists, Cyrus Chestnut, returns this month with a set of improvisations based on hymns and spirituals. It’s a joyful program of familiar tunes that will be enjoyed by those of faith and all jazz-lovers.

Our Sing-Along space on Spirio continues to expand and this month we add more videos, including Don McLean’s epic “American Pie”, The Rogers/Parton “Islands in the Stream”, John Lennon’s “Beautiful Boy” and more Fleetwood Mac.

On Spiriocast this month, don’t miss the Spirio debut of the wondrous artistry of Polina Osetinskaya. Her mesmerizing program that premieres on Sept. 17 is devoted to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and explores his orchestral, instrumental, vocal and choral works specially transcribed for piano.
